The Global Covenant of Mayors

Since 2011, Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has been part of the European Union’s Covenant of Mayors, CoM, and since 2015, Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has been part of the Compact of Mayors, which is a global network of cities, C40 Cities. Compact of Mayors was launched during the UN’s climate conference in 2014.

In both mayoral agreements, Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has committed to work for the green transition and to share knowledge of its experiences. The two mayoral agreements have now been merged into the Global Covenant of Mayors, which is the world’s biggest climate co-operation between mayors and civil servants.

The Mayor has thus committed Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality to:

  1. mitigate climate changes by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases
  2. make the municipality more resilient to the consequences of climate change

The initiative is intended to share knowledge, data and experiences of cities’ and municipalities’ climate efforts all over the world and thus bring focus on the importance of local climate efforts.

The Municipality must measure its efforts, formulate an objective and prepare an action plan, actions which Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has already achieved.
